Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Well, I believe that previous complains on support of file format should be easily resolved with firmware updates, anybody have any information of any flaw to this set? thanks

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Firmwares only comes later together with the new bugs.
Nothing beats PC as a player while having a 2~4bay NAS that protects yr data, movies, photos, songs, Torrents, Porns... :D

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Well, I was thinking the same when I bought one in last year's sitex. It is the old DVR model. The truth (at least to me) is that, it has a lot of features, but whatever feature, it is slow and buggy; it has service support, but I have to send in by myself, and in the end they said that problem cannot be found, and I had to collect it by myself again; it has firmware upgrade, but only to the new model which is released just 1-2 month after the show. For the old models, they don't provide upgrade, and they don't provide trade-in either. After days of hacking and studying (yes, it's a Linux box, so you can "do whatever" you want), it turns out that the flash is just too small to store the new firmware which support more codecs. What is the difference between old and new model? None except that it has a bigger flash, the processor and motherboard is exactly the same. They just discontinue the old one, and sell the new one at a higher price!

If you find out its chipset name and search in google, you can find tens of media players with different name, but has exactly the same specification as ACRyan's player. In fact it is just an ODM made by a Chinese company in Shenzhen. The features are either developed by the ODM or the online Linux community (I searched online and installed FTP, SSHD, BT, writable NTFS by myself as they don't provide update to my model). I just don't understand how it can win so many awards.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous wooh, sorry but I'm not really into the IT scene. do you mind recommending any alternative HD players that is worth considering. i just need one that can play my mkv files, able to show embedded or external subtitles, play multiple embedded audio languages and also being responsive with a userfriendly interface. thanks in advance for any input!

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous I'm using Playon HD to play my mkv movies and lossless audio (dts, wav, flac). I'd recommend POHD. It's a nice device for your pleasure.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Sorry for late reply. In my own opinion, if price is not a concern, you may consider ASRock Ion 330HT (check the Brochure in this website). Unlike many other HD players (there are tens of HD players in the market now) which use different CPU (or just DSP) and different OS, it uses Intel Atom CPU and Windows 7, so never have to worry about support of any audio/video/subtitle formats, and all controls are in well-familiar Windows environment. Plus it has a blueray DVD combo. But to me $999 is still a bit expensive. So in the end I still didn't buy it. :D Maybe I'll wait for the next show!

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Nowadays, many AWARDS are given out by Institution or Group formed by related people....
WHERE there is NO INDEPENDENCE and TRANSPARENCY, AWARDS are an ALTERNATIVE FORM of CREATIVE ADVERTISING, just like the SUB-PRIME FINANCIAL PRODUCTS which made all the banks and governments TECHNICALLY BANKRUPT.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous hey, anybody know if sitex is selling the WD TV Live? anybody can give me some advice as to which is a better player, cos both this one and WD TV Live seem the same to me in terms of functions. I searched online for both reviews and both turned out not bad.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Well, still these boxes are with single hard drive and that means your data is not protected. I don't take such risk as i had bad personal experiences before.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Well, i don't really consider this single drive box though.
How long can you tolerate your data lost with this single drive box?
There are many 2~4bays boxes with intelligent RAID technology where you really can depend if you do not want to loose your data.
The bigger the capacity, the riskier it is putting shit in a single drive box.
Be careful dudes!

I wouldn't go for this though the multimedia technology is strong.
AC-Ryan should come back with multi drives boxes in future hopefully.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous wah i read the previous comments of comex and i'm now quite discourage in getting this set. btw, any WD TV users out there? just wanna confirm that the WD TV can play embedded or external .srt etc. subtitles, and can stream select audio languages for mkv files with multiple audio DTS-ES?

and any positive comments for this set (i have the playon dvr and i must say i kind of regret buying it haha)?

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous Tot of getting one if there is a good offer, but seem like no offer at all. GIVE UP!
posted 25 Nov 2009 - Permanent Link
Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous pls check Comex 09 comments on this product. Many negative reviews. probably nothing has changed except a $30 discount since a few months ago.

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous is this a good deal? does it support 2TB hard drives?

Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous i'm using this unit, and it works just fine.
kinda impressed by it. and i supported a 1.5T hdd for me. thus think going up to 2T should be fine as well!
