Anonymous Unregistered Anonymous I've bought the previous gen PlayOn at Sitex 2008. 3 months after I bought, ACRyan launched the PayOn HD. I think ACRyan has to be honest with consumer about their releases and provide a path for consumers to upgrade when the set is only 3 months old.

Non (1 posts) Non I bought PlayonHD set on the 1st day of the PC show at Bizgran without the hardisk. Frankly this the best one compared to SnaZio HD player I bought almost 2 years ago and WDTV media player I bought almost 1 year ago. This player can play all my formats that cannot be played on the other 2 player. One plus point, it comes with optical and coaxial inputs which important for those already have a home theater system. The only thing missing is the E-Sata input which most of my hardisks come with it.

Mechwarrior (3 posts) Mechwarrior Bought this two days ago. Works fine land plays all format. Tested upto to 720P encoded files so far and fine picture good. Only think is that it did not come with the supposed 2 year warranty card in the box and I was told to sign up online. But there is no online link to register the warranty. Any clue?

Gwyneth (2 posts) Gwyneth Again for the PlayOn! HD, what does the UPnP Media Streaming functionality do?
posted 13 Jun 2009 - Permanent Link
Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone UPNP is a simple network protocol that makes it easy to link up networked devices. With UPNP enabled devices, you can use our player to stream contents from a NAS, or even software streaming applications that supports UPNP such as Windows Media Player or Zune, etc. You can refer to the manual for more details.

Gwyneth (2 posts) Gwyneth How does the bittorrent client work? Does it search the Internet for the desired bittorrent file, then gives you the option to download the one you want, all through the TV without a need to access the PC?
posted 13 Jun 2009 - Permanent Link
Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone You will need the PC to start the download by providing the torrent file. When the player is successfully connected to your router hosting the internet connectivity, you will be able to see the player IP address in the Setup -> Network section. Now type this IP address using one of your PC which is also connected to the same router using your internet brower (IE, Firefox, etc).

You will be able to see an interface where you can click on Bittorrent download. From there, click on Add Torrent and then browse for the location of the downloaded torrent file. Add it in and the player will then start to download the torrent packages.

For more details, you can refer to the manual or call our techsupport during office hours.

posted 12 Jun 2009 - Permanent Link
Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone Sure you can stream via wireless from your PC to playback using our media player. As our player resides as a guest to play the contents of your PC, you will need to enable the Guest account on your PC, as well as the NetBIOS over TCP/IP. For a better understanding, you can download our Quick Network Setup Guide at this link. http://www.acryan.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=101&Itemid=73

Should you need any further assistance, please call us during our office hours next week.

ChengTng (1 posts) ChengTng Just to share my experience with its previous model...
1) there is no TV tuner, so you need an external tuner... go figure out...
2) I used 2 brand of the WLAN dongle... not recognised... in the end I used wired...

Just take note of the above, overall its a reliable easy to use system... thks.

Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone Our previous models are DVRs, which are Digital Video Recorders and being a recorder class, it comes with a TV tuner and supports just the general playback formats. Our new model is a Full HD media player, so it doesn't have any tuner or recording capabilities, but it sure can handle most video codecs and formats well.

As for the wifi dongle, I'm afraid it will only work with our dongle and not just any other brands. Reason being the main chipset is Realtek, naturally our dongle is also based on Realtek chipset.

ajak (1 posts) ajak What chipset is it using? Their first model last year got some bad review. Any review for this new one?
posted 11 Jun 2009 - Permanent Link
Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone I would like to stress again that this new model is a different product from our previous model. Our previous models are recorder class, Digital Video Recorder which primary usage is meant for recording. Whereas now this is a Full HD media player which supports almost all formats and codecs.

Our media player is using Realtek 1073 chipset.

We currently do not have any review sites now as this is a newly launched product. But if you are interested to drive test the unit, you can bring down your own media files to test out with our demo unit bro.

Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone I'm sorry that we do not have any other HDD capacities other than 750GB. And our empty sets are already sold out during the first day. You might want to consider our bundle with 750GB at $359?

Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone (18 posts) Eugene aka ACeRyan on VRZone Nope bro, you will need to use our own wifi dongle in order to work with our media player. Right now the wireless N dongle (~$49) will only be available roughly end of July, but if you need to get now, we can offer you the G dongle at $29.

- As for the firmware is it updateable for future upgrades e.g. video codec update etc

- Do you sell playonhd without harddisk as well, how much does it cost

Yes, there will definitely be further firmware updates if we have any enhancements or bug fixes. I don't think our player will need any further codec support for now, as we already support most of the formats/codecs under the sun.

The price without the HDD is at $249, but we currently do not have stock without the HDD now, but bro, the price at $359 with a 750GB is a steal and we have rather limited stock now at our booth.
